Maxi Cosi PrioriFix RSS
This is the 'Classic' Maxi-Cosi Priori in Isofix form. If this seat is approved for your vehicle it is a great buy. You'll also have the flexibility of being able to use this in cars without Isofix fittings using a standard three-point adult seat belt.
One to consider
For a good Isofix seat that can be installed with a seat belt when required
Expert review
The PrioriFix is a forward facing Car Seat that will take your child from 9-18kgs which will be around 3-4 years of age.
This seat has been around for several years now and is represented in the Maxi-Cosi range in several incarnations. This particular version is fitted either utilising the Isofix fittings present in your vehicle or with your 3-point adult seat belt in any position in the car where there is no frontal Air-Bag present.
Unfortunately, Isofix is not yet the 'Universal' fitting system that it should be and not every vehicle that has Isofix fittings is universally approved to accept an Isofix Car Seat. Your Nursery Retailer should be able to confirm this. Maxi-Cosi have an Isofix Fitting List that is constantly being updated on their website that can also be checked.
The seat itself has two sets of Green/Red indicators to show whether or not the seat is fitted correctly. One set will confirm that the Isofix fittings are engaged and the other will confirm that the support leg is installed correctly.
The Support Leg is required to give the PrioriFix 'semi-universal' Isofix approval. The leg will prevent the seat from moving forward on impact.
Should you need to fit this seat with your seat belt, fitting is very easy and in most cases a good tight fit can be achieved. However, just as important as the tightness of the fit, is the position of your seat belt buckle so always have the fit checked by a professional. A tight fit is often thought to be a safe fit and this is most definitely NOT the case.
The multi height child's harness is easily adjusted without having to remove the seat cover and without re-threading the harness, saving time and ensuring that the integrity of the harness is not compromised. The PrioriFix has a decent amount of padding and benefits from good side impact protection.
Reclining the seat can be easily accomplished with the child in place and there are four recline positions.
For your convenience, you will find two hooks, one on either side of the seat. These are used to 'hang' the harness on whilst you put the child in the seat. This may seem frivolous but wait until you try putting a screaming child into a car seat!
A Group 1 seat is not tested below 20lbs so don't be in a hurry to have your child facing forward. A good Nursery Retailer should be able to advise you on fitting, suitability and the readiness of your child for the seat.
THE LOW-DOWN
How do you know if it fits?
For fitting compatibility, check the Maxi-Cosi Website. As with all car
seats, always confirm correct fitting and compatibility with a trained
Nursery retailer or Road Safety Officer.
What Group and what does this mean? The PrioriFix is a Group 1 Car seat which will take your child from 9-18kgs (aprox 9 months – 4 years)
Key considerations - Make sure that it fits
Ease of fitting - Isofix is easy. With a seat belt it's very easy in a four door car. As is the case with many other Car Seats, it will be less easy in smaller two door vehicles
Any defining features – The base fits well into modern shape car seats
Budget - around £230
Optional Accessories – Play tray

Having used the maxi cosi cabriofix and base it was no competition to chose the next seat up. This provides so much more support than many group one seats all ways and is very quick and easy to fit and move from car to car (if a bit heavy). Seems pretty comfortable and certainly my daughter prefers it to our spare seat. It was easy to remove the cover and I machine washed at 30C even though it said hand wash - came up perfectly. The recline function is useful and I can operate one handed from the front of the car. We are buying another now for our second daughter despite having a spare non maxi cosi already. Please can maxi cosi do an isofix in the next size up before my daughter is too big for her current seat
