Bee

One to consider

If you want a 'Top of the Range' lightweight pushchair

Expert review

The Bee is the new lightweight city buggy from Bugaboo. An unusual looking machine, this Bugaboo folds in one piece unlike its' sisters the Gecko and Cameleon. The seat is a sturdy, sporty plastic shell with a ventilated back panel that also serves to allow you to adjust the 5 point harness with ease as your baby grows. As you adjust the harness, the headrest will adjust in tandem. The seat will require a fleece or sheepskin liner or the Bugaboo Babynest (a soft carrycot which will improve the comfort of a newborn baby) which can be purchased as an accessory.

Although the Bee is 'suitable' from birth, the seat is not a genuine lie-flat seat. If laying completely flat is important to you and you want to stick with Bugaboo, take a look at the Gecko and Cameleon models.

The seat unit itself has been well thought out and will extend at the 'newborn' stage to enable the baby to lie flatter and shorten as the baby grows so as not to extend beyond their knee joints. It has four recline positions and can be removed and replaced to face either direction.

The Bee can be folded with the seat unit in place and at 7.7kgs it is lightweight whilst its neat compact fold will allow it to fit into most car boots with ease. The height adjustable handle will allow for parents of any height to push comfortably. The all-round suspension is good; this along with The Bee's swivel wheels, foam filled tyres and compact frame make it easy to push and highly manoeuvrable.

A small shopping basket is included along with a raincover. Accessories available include a breezy sun canopy (an alternative summer hood with extra ventilation), car seat adapters, cup-holder, diaper bag, footmuff, parasol and wheeled transport bag. A UV sunshade is also available but as the Bee's sunshade is a full length piece that covers the sun canopy it is questionable how neccessary the UV Shade is.  There will also eventually be a wheeled board for a toddler which is currently in develoment.

I have had a number of pushchairs for my daughter who is now 13 months. The biggest problem was her slouching due to the shape of the seat and location of the strap that goes between her legs which was allowing her to slide down in the seat or the shoulder straps fitting around her ears rather than her shoulders. The Bugaboo Bee has solved both problems due to its adjustable seat and various shoulder strap settings. Its compact, lightweight and the suspension allows it to take rougher ground better than other lightweight strollers. The wheels do not make a lot of noise moving across pavement like other strollers. The Bee really is lovely to push, its so light and the front wheels respond very quickly. The seat is narrower than some strollers but the side panels do have give so I cannot see this being a problem as my daughter grows as they will mould around her. The rain cover fits easily and very well it also has a nice window where I can reach her if I need to. It has a good recline which my daughter seems very comfortable sleeping in. The shopping basket is a decent size for carrying essentials and a few bits on a shop, it does not hold what a large buggy would hold but my expectations are that this is a stroller. Reviews I read when looking at buying the Bee I felt some people expected a lot of features you would find in a heavy pram or travel system, the Bee is a stroller and when looking at it for this purpose it is a cut above the rest in its design and features. I personally would not use it for tougher terrain and would not recommend it for somebody who tackles grass, mud, sand or gravel frequently i have a larger pushchair for this purpose so the Bee suits my needs when nipping about town. For a lightweight stroller the Bee offers everything I was looking for with regards to my daughters comfort and it looks great too!

All round fantastic pushchair. My 19 month old daughter loves it. In fact she likes being in a snug seat. The only niggle I have is she does not like the padded straps coming over her shoulder. Ideal for a baby but not for a toddler.

hi i have just read your reviews, me and my bf are expecting our 1st baby due in August this year. We spent a good 3months researching buggies before we went out looking as we want one that is light weight, practical and one that looks funky. We originaly liked the Quinny Buzz-but far too heavey! and it's quite bulky too, then we liked the Luna but went off it as there were a lot of bad reviews and also because we wanted to wait til new buggies came out. We really liked the Bugaboo Cameleon although we much prefferd the Bugaboo Bee, as it had more possitive point about it. 1 being: Light weight 7.7kg which is a strong possitive for me as i have back problems and also becuase i dont drive i will be walking and getting buses a lot - so it was very important that it would be light weight 2: the wheels aren't infaltable or too bulky which their not 3: it's everything into one from birth to about 3 or 4 depending how big, small baby will be. 4: if i need to collapase the buggy then i can and it just collapeses nice and easy rather than the Cameleon you have to take the carry cot off abit more fidderly than the Bee. Obviously i havent had baby yet so when i do i will send anouther reply review of how i geton with it. But after researching we feel that this is the right one for us. To be continued...

I have both the bee after about 9 months of having the cameleon. Although the cameleon is a lovely looking buggy and is definitely comfortable for the baby, I was fed up having to take it apart before putting it in the car. The bee is alot more compact and to my opinion the basket is so much easier to use than the cameleon. It is easy to push and the suspension is good. I have no regrets buying the bee, at the end of the day it fulfills the most important criteria as a pushchair - comfort, compact, easy to use and get in and out of the car!! The downside with the bee is that the back of the seat does NOT seem to be adjusted to a FULL UPRIGHT POSITION, and I am finding my son constantly trying to push himself forward to look out. (Am I just not using it right? Can someone tell me please) It is expensive but if you use it to its full then it is worth the money.

This is a fantastic pushchair. I had a Bugaboo Frog with my first child 4 years ago but found it such a pain to have to take the travel system apart all the time and wanted something which folded in one piece. I have used this for a newborn over the winter and it is incredibly convenient and comfortable - our son looked so snug in the babynest. It is easy to fold and light enough to carry with one hand. There have been some initial glitches with the frame including difficulties changing the seat from front to rear facing but Bugaboo have now rectified this and there is a 'Mark 2' out in most shops now. I don't agree with children growing out of it too quickly. My son is 3.5 and often jumps in for a ride when he gets the chance. In fact the woman in John Lewis who demonstrated it sat in it herself and she was a good size 12!! I can't comment on how it does off-road - i suspect not that well but this wasn't a consideration for us.

I got the Bee when it came out in February and it is the perfect stroller for me. I can fold it one handed as it states you can, the seat is very easy to change, the handle adjusts with ease and the hood is a fantastic size. I've had no problems with scratches and was told by Bugaboo if it scratches use a silicon based polish and it'll come up a treat. The seat has never collapsed and I use the Bee in rear facing mode all the time. My children are average size and the seat is perfect for my 3 yr old and 20 mht old to sit in and the harness is a good size. The raincover is a nice size and easy to put on and off and has a window so you can check on your child. It's incredibly light weight makes it so easy to steer and the suspension is fantastic. The shopping basket is a good size and can fit quite a lot in it. My daughter finds it very comfortable and sleeps in it easily and it reclines without waking her. I would recommend the Bee if you are after a light weight, forward and rear facing stroller and have the money.

the bee is a good pushchair in the fact it's compact and fantastic to push but i'm having the same problems with the bee as the cameleon i also have .it's the fact that the frame sratches so easily i have only had my bee 2 weeks and hardly used it and already it has sratches on the frame , everybody i know who has purchased a bugaboo have the same problem for the high price i really thought bugaboo would have improved on the quality of the frames . my 7 month old son loves both the cameleon and bee , but i would say if your child is big for there age don't choose the bee it WON'T be big enough as it is quite narrow our son was premature so he is quite small and hopefully the bee will last us through the next few years.

the bee is not for everybody i have had mine 2 weeks and only used it a couple of times and already there are bad sratches on the frame even though we are very careful when handling the pushchair, we also have the cameleon which is fab, but i wanted the bee as a second pushchair as our son is in and out of hospital the bee is much more easier to get around with because it's so compact . if your child is large for there age i would say choose another option as the seat is quite narrow and the straps are a pain as the ones on mine always get twisted and are quite short , my son was premature so is small for 7 months so he will probably be okay in it, i have the yellow one . i think bugaboo need to improve on the quality of the frame because everybody i know with a bugaboo brand puschair all have bad sratches on the frames.

I bought the Bee as my son had grown out of his Cameleon at 2 years old and really wanted another Bugaboo. I love it and my son is now 3 years old and quite tall for his age. This is the only stroller that he jumps into as soon as we take it out of the car and he is very happy to have a nap in it and looks very comfortable. I find it very easy to use although have not used it in the rear facing mode as have had no reason to do so. I find it very compact and easy to store in the boot although still is larger than an umbrella stroller but it is such a stylish stroller that I my husband and I squabble over who is going to push! I highly recommend it but I personally would buy a Cameleon for a young baby as I prefer the option of the carrycot and perhaps have the Bee as a second stroller or for when baby is a little older.

I bought this as my pushchair to live in my car. It was also very important that it was fairly light, single fold and rearward facing. I've had it for over 2 months, my daughter is now 14 months but quite large for her age. The positives - light, compact, easy to steer, narrow enough to go through doorways with ease. It's also easy to change the seat unit around. The negatives - very small seat unit, straps are short, accessories are expensive, also there is no support below the knee when rear facing - legs just dangle. But the biggest and most important negative for me is that the seat collapses easily when facing backwards - the support hooks are too short and one piece of uneven ground and my daughter ends up in a standing position (only happens rearward facing, support is more substantial forward facing). For us it's the 'about town' pushchair, great for shopping (though not that much basket space), given the size of the seat it won't last as long as we'll need a pushchair. I don't use it when my daughter si going to be in it for longer periods of time. Poor performance (rear facing) over uneven ground. Would I buy it again? Yes, it meets my criteria (rear facing, single fold, lightweight, compact) but it is expensive for what it provides.

compact, light, easy to steer, looks great, fabulous large hood, basket quite good size but no space in the seat area..height wise or width wise for children past 1 year.......!!!! how could they have messed that up..especially for nearly £400, you'd think they would have made it comfortable but it seems the main importances were compact and looks which is great for mums who care more about their image than the comfort of their babies...! so i am selling mine asap....!!!!!!!
