New from Mamas & Papas and therefore we can’t yet comment on its durability but only from a design perspective.

Luna

One to consider

If you are a city person with a small car boot!

Expert review

In terms of looks, Mamas & Papas have done it again, this is stylish and sleek looking.  The 4 colours (Truffle, Tulip, Cress and Aqua) are bold but tasteful.  There are optional patterned seat liners to go with each colour that, in our view, spoil the look of the pushchair rather than enhance it!

It requires 2 hands to fold so is not ideal for public transport, although it is probably light enough to lift on and off a bus with the baby in it.

There is one big design flaw that may need to be corrected in subsequent editions – that is – the method of folding requires the whole of the bottom of the seat fabric to lie flat on the ground.  Not ideal at all! What’s more the pushchair does not free-stand when folded.

The seat unit lies flat for new-borns and is fairly comfortable (although for new-borns, a sheepskin liner is probably a good idea, and much more preferable than the seat liner accessories as mentioned earlier!).

It will accommodate the Mamas and Papas Primo Viaggio car seat but not with integral adaptors like the Pliko, instead you need additional adaptors that are rather large clips that attach to the chassis and allow you to mount the seat.  These need removing each time you fold the pushchair so risk being lost or not being in the place you need them to be when you come to need them.

Time will tell how this pushchair fares.  In our opinion it is a good newcomer but needs a few tweaks to make it a main contender.

At £150 it’s not bad value for money and a good option if you want a compact buggy to keep in the boot of your car (even if you have a VW Beetle!).

The new Mamas & Papas 2 year guarantee (extended from 6m) will provide some security if you want to try out this pushchair.

It has a nice bouncy feel to it and the bar handle is comfortable and adjustable. For '08 (and a price increase to £150) Mamas & Papas have added a bumper Bar and adjustable to the Luna. Two welcome additions to the list of features and well worth the extra £20.

THE LOW-DOWN

How Practical? – Impractical folding method means seat fabric has to touch ground, otherwise good for city life and small car boots
Defining features – Very light and super compact fold
Who is it for? - For city people and anyone who is struggling to fit a pushchair in their car boot
Car boot size – Small (one of the few pushchairs that will fit in the back of a VW Beetle)
Upsides – Compact fold, stylish look, bouncy feel, good price
Downsides – Half of the seat fabric has to lie flat on the ground when folding!, does not free-stand when folded, car seat adaptors need removing to fold, another downside is that the car seat that it is compatible with is the Primo Viaggio!
Budget - £150
What is included in the price? – Raincover
Optional accessoriesParasol, Seat Liner, Accessory Pack

I love the luna pushchair my child is 11 months old and fits so snuggly and looks so comfortable. I agree with some of the other views on here that if you look after your pushchair and used it reponsably then you'll have no problems they like most other pushchairs are not designed to have bags hung from them or fo the child to be sitting in unsupervised as tro be honest the pushchair wouldn't of had time to topple forward if the woman was keeping an eye on her child!

I have had the Luna Mix version of this push chair since June and I am still loving it. My 7 month old is very happy in it and I have actually removed the bumper bar as currently do not feel the need for it. I would recommend this pushchair to anyone, I only wish the carry cot had been available earlier. The whole package for a newborn is a cheap alternative to a lot of the pram/pushchair combinations on the market and becomes the lighter weight buggy that most people buy after 6 months anyway.

I would just like to ask if anyone has a vw beetle that they have managed to fit the luna into the boot of? Im looking to get a pram soon and went to the mamas and papas store (150 miles away) and the shop assistant couldn't fit it in my boot, she wouldn't let me try as im sure i could have fit it in. Next time will go with my partner and between us im sure we will be able to fit it but don't want to waste my time travelling all that way if someone knows that it doesn't fit.

The Luna Pushchair is AWFUL, i purchased this in June 2007 for my son who was 7 months at the time, i did have my concerns about the safety from Day 1, but was assured by the Sales Assistant it was Safe!! Started using this pushchair again this summer, and to my Horror whilst my son was sitting in the pushchair he leaned so far forward that it toppled over on him, he was left lying on the floor with the pushchair on top of him. MMMM Safe i dont think, i have version 1 of the pushchair, contacted M& P who said " We have not had any other complaints regarding this" i wont settle until this is investigated, a child will be seriusly hurt in this pushchair!! Why did they re-design the pushchair if it was Safe??? Exactly, i have sent a fromal written complaint to M&P's and will not let this go!!

I have version 3 of this pushchair, and find it very good for day to day use. My 2 year old fits comfortably and still has a good nap in it once in a while! The only negative points are the deisgn of the basket, as it is lower at the back things can fall out when you go up a kerb or steep hill, and the harness. I can adjust it to be safe by moving the plastic slider, but this only works without the seat liner on. I would have preferred a fixed harness.

i bought the luna in may 2007,for my second child, with car seat thinking this is cool and smart, have just started to use the pushchair, when my son turned one. well i was mortified as my son neally fell out of the harness twice, so much for safety, this is the version one.as you can see on the new version, there is a bumper bar, and the seating in much better, as in mine it looks so uncomfortable and not much seating. horrfied with this i contacted mamas and papas they offered me a bumber bar, which is like admitting there is a problem with it. still not happy when into store, which they advised me was ok, and would not answer my questions and would not let my son sit in the new version i wonder why??? they no theres problems with it!!!!!! it has been sent to get checked but i no it will come back ok. would not recomend this pushchair, at all.

In response to all those who think the luna is "crap" and "unsafe". 1) if you put a bag on the handle where it isn't supposed to go them there is a chance ur pram will tip over. 2) the apron is NOT to protect your child from the weather! It makes the pram look neater and stops blankets etc from falling on the floor. 3) the harness is a floating harness. Maybe some people should check what that means because they obviously don't know! It allows your child to move freely but safely. If you secure ur harness properly it will be safe. 4) if you all looked after your prams properly then maybe you wouldn't have bits falling off. I have a luna myself and have never had an ounce of trouble with it.

The new Luna has a bumper bar, leg rest, head surround and an carrycot accessory so if you are using it from birth it is more suitable and only £60 more. I know the first Luna had a few problems as my friend had one which she had a love hate relationship with. This new version is great though, solves all the old problems and it still only £150. I dared to go for the new orange colour and have had a really good reaction from people out and about who think it's really funky. It folds alot smaller than others in the market and with the accessories you can change the look for a few extra quid. I'd definitely recommend the new model - make sure it's the one with the bumper bar and leg rest!!

i have had my luna 3 months and it is totally crap, i wish i never set eyes on the bloody thing! i bought it as i was going to australia and my little boy (18 months) will not go to sleep sitting up. i have had no end of problems with it... first the stitching holding the back adjustment straps came away from the seat, leaving the straps flapping in the wind.... then the basket broke...... the foam handle started to disintergrate in a place where i never hold or push it from...... and now the frame is so loose that it will swing from side to side if u sneeze on it! at first i thought it was a great little pushchair as it fitted into my tiny little boot. now i wish i never wasted my money. i have taken it back to the shop and hey said that they would service it, i want my money back but have been told that i have got a hope in hell..... well we will see!

I bought the luna pushchair last July (2007) and was really happy with it at 1st. Now my baby is 7 months old and once my daughter got to the sitting up stage things turned bad. The pushchair looks fairly comfortable for a newborn baby when they are lying down but when sitting up, the babys look really uncomfortable. There isnt enough room on the seat for my daughter to sit and the leg rests are not adjustbale (as we have the old version) so she just gets strapped to the pushchair instead of being able to sit in it. We complained to Mamas and Papas but we got nowhere. We have now bought a Maclaren pushchair which is much better and my daughter looks so much more comfortable in it. I KNOW THAT PEOPLE HAVE RECEIVED REFUNDS ON THEIR LUNA PUSHCHAIRS AND I WANT ONE! DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET ONE?????

An update from my previous post (08.02.08) I returned my Luna to my local M&P store after complaining via their website. I had a look at the Luna's in store and asked a member of staff if the clips on the chasis are meant to come out easily. I was advised that they are meant to pull out due to taking apart but not easy. I showed them my Luna and the chasis clips just slipped in and out. They took the Luna from me and advised they will get it fixed and served for free. Off my luna went to be returned to me. I am NOT HAPPY!!! According to the report my Luna is out of guarentee (I purchased 22/5/07 - and as far as I was concerned there is a 12mth guarentee and warranty on it). It says that the condition of my Luna was Dirty Fabric, Dirty Chasis/body, heavily marked, Scratched paint/varnish. My luna has the usual wear and tear but certainly is not heavily marked! or dirty!!! It is hardly used and spends most of its time sitting in the boot of the car!!. It also states that there was no fault found with the clips! EXCUSE ME! The clips are meant to slip out easily enough that with movement from my daughter they slipped out and luckily I caught her before her head got stuck!! They done the service and on the final checklist when asked if there are any missing part is says YES??? What is that all about! What parts?!?! I am NOT happy about this! My partner is fuming!! Our local M&P better watch out! I will never buy from them again! We went with them because of their quality of their products, or supposedly quality! I will never be going there again and will warn anyone I can off!!!!

I bought the luna pushchair for my 4 month old baby daughter thinking it looked fantastic! How wrong was I? I've experienced a few problems, firstly my baby wasn't at all comfy with the black slightly raised she kept sliding to the side. She doesnt like to lie flat back when she's awake as she likes to look around. When she was asleep a laid the luna flat back to discover the cosy toes didnt cover her at all, luckily I had a blanket with me to cover her up. The other thing I discovered was when I went to fold it up to put it back in the car the bottom of the cosy toes lays on the floor so it got absolutley soaked! I was not happy at all. Anyway I put it away for a couple of months and thought I'd try it again when she was able to sit up and I still have the same problem, she just slides to the left. She can sit fine in her highchair so it must be the luna! I really regret buying this pushchair and Im so glad I have my Quinny Buzz! Thank goodness it wasnt my only pushchair!! Please dont buy this pushchair, it looks good but let me assure you its not!!

I brought the Luna in Tulip when my daughter was 3months old. Its very light, tips very easily and when folding down the pushchair the fabric touches the floor. Was out shopping the other weekend with my daughter (who has just turned 1). She was in a fairly upright position. Before I knew it, the clip had come off, the velcro undone and she rolled. Luckily she was strapped in and I managed to grap the material to stop her head falling between the gap. Needless to say she has not been in it since. Went to my M&P store who advised to bring it in for servicing - Which I have to pay for!!!! Wouldn't recommend this pushchair!!

i love my luna tulip and i didnt have to wait very long for delivery. it does fold small but you would haveto take the hood, apron and 2 front wheels off to fit it into a really tiny boot. everyone asks me where i got it and how much it costs as it looks more expensive than the price which i found very reasonable. i have even been told it looks a bit like the very expensive bugaboo. the only downside for me is that the raincover doesnt fold very small to put in the basket and it has ripped a bit at the seams. i have only had it 2 months. mammas and pappas need to do some work on the raincover

I replaced a damaged Pliko pramette with this as my baby is now 8 months old, looks great but.... rear wheels 'very' wide making door access difficult as has silly bolts sticking out, the material touches the floor when folded, not funny on a rainy day or in a public multistorage carpark with oil on floor as i found out! And its 'very' back heavy, 1 bag on handle causes it to tip back even with a 20lb baby in seat, not the greatest, although was in the sale for £80!! The raincover is cumbersome and looks hideous. The Pliko was an awesome pram in comparison....but hey, live and learn

Bought this pushchair as a "spare" for in the boot of the car and for shopping trips instead of taking my larger pram. Absolutely hate it - I don't feel that my daughter is safe in it - the shoulder straps are continuously falling down, no matter how tight you adjust them. The seat is not deep enough to accommodate an older child (by older, I'm talking 14 months) - unless she is fast asleep and in the recline position, my daughter does not look comfortable at all. For me, the footmuff doesn't provide enough protection from the weather - especially when the child is reclined. The zip on my footmuff is continually coming undone which means that the footmuff ends up hanging off as the press-studs on the side are not strong enough to keep it in place. Like in other reviews I've read, the folding position is completely impractical - it was raining the other day and the front of the footmuff got soaked as it all goes on the floor when setting the pram up. All in all, a complete waste of money and I would not recommend it to anyone. It may look good, but that's about it. With hindsight, I should have purchased an M&P Pliko - more expensive but definately worth it.

I have just bought the Luna pushchair and I love it. It's compact when folded, comfortable and light to push. The only downside I have is the the foot rest does not lift up when your child is asleep. I would recommend this pushchair to anyone.
