Not everything that claims to be the best always is..... this one is!

Tripp Trapp

One to consider

If you want a high chair that lasts for life and is just as stylish and practical as a kids as it is as an adults.

Expert review

The best thing about this highchair is that it is a chair for life! Not only is it stylish and practical as a highchair, as a chair for an older child or even an adult it is stylish and very comfortable.  The unusual aspect of this highchair is that it has no tray.  This is intentional as the purpose is to integrate the child into the family and allow them to eat at the table.  In so doing, it encourages the child to actually makes less mess than if they are in a corner on their own and given free reign!  They are also more aware of others eating and tend to get to grips with table manners and good eating habits sooner than if they are in a separate zone.

That being said, not everyone likes the fact there is no tray so it will be a downside for some.  One of the best features is that there are no crevices for food to get trapped as there are in so many highchairs so it remains in good condition throughout its life.

To turn it from a chair to a baby chair you need the ‘baby set’ (a reinforced back and a safety guard round the front) and there is the option of a cushion to make it more comfortable for the baby.  The cushion is machine washable, but not as easy as it could be to remove and replace for frequent washing. An optional safety harness is also available but is not always essential. It is a natural wood product and comes in a variety of shades and colours.

The Tripp Trapp is very easy to assemble and adjust.  It is recommended that you adjust it once a year around your child’s birthday to keep it at the right level for them.  At all stages, there is a foot plate so that the child’s feet are firmly placed and not left dangling.  It is considered to be an excellent chair for your back and is very unique in its design.  It does not fold but is in itself a slimline chair.  The seat does not recline at all so your child needs to be around 6 months and sitting before it can be used.

THE LOWDOWN

How practical? - Super practical as you can use it forever as long as you are happy not to have a tray in the early stages
Defining Features - No tray, chair for life
Other considerations – Not suitable for use with breakfast bars
Age? - From 6 months to old age!
Budget - Approx £110 + accessories – not the cheapest but great value for money considering its life span
Accessories to consider – Babyset (required to turn ‘chair’ into ‘highchair’), cushion, harness

We have been using this chair for over a year and we're very happy with it. Our son can now climb into it by himself and can sit in it at the table without the baby set or a harnass, so he's very mich included in all our meals. It is also a good-looking chair that doesn't scream 'baby' as soon as you walk in the room, and it doesn't take up much space. It's easy to clean too. All in all this is one item that was definitely worth the money!

We have been using this high chair for our 7 month old baby and have found it to be practical and easy to clean. It is possible to purchase a "Clic Clac" wooden tray for the chair from a separate company (see ebay) which makes life easier if you aren't ready for your dining table to be covered in baby puree!
