It looks good and will give the baby a bit of fun along the way. Here is a list of the features that we would look for in a cot:

•    Being able to adjust the height of the base means that when the baby is younger you can have him/her closer to the top for easier access. As soon as the baby can move on its own, you must lower the base.

•    Teething rails will stop the baby chewing on the sides of the cot.

•    A "drop" side will give you easier access to the baby and help you especially if you have back problems and leaning over presents a problem.

•    An easy as possible drop side mechanism helps to make life easier.

The Bola has all of this and looks good too. The drop side mechanism is the traditional plastic catch system and is easy once you discover the knack. However, this is not what we would classify as a "one-handed" drop side and therefore you won’t be able to hold the baby and operate the side at the same time.

Of the two "standard" cot sizes (other than cot-bed) in the UK, this is the smaller. It will require a mattress in the region of 120x60cm. Much as the Cosatto brochure will have you believe; it is not necessary to buy the Cosatto mattress. A good nursery retailer will be able to recommend the correct mattress for you.

Your cot will arrive flat-packed but assembly is easy. So, it's all upside for the Bola and at £140 it represents good value for money.
