Cot
A solid, generally wooden, bed that is enclosed by high side rails to prevent the baby rolling out during the night. In the UK, cots commonly take a mattress of 120x60cm and will have at least two mattress positions; a newborn height where it is easier for the parent when placing the baby in and taking them out of the cot and a lower position that is usually employed at around 6 months when the baby starts to sit up and become more mobile. Cots will also usually have a drop-side, which allows easier access to the baby. Cots are suitable from birth to approximately 2 or 3 years old. Styles and designs of cots will differ enormously and are often part of coordinated sets of nursery furniture.
