Amniocentesis (Amnio)

A diagnostic test used to determine possible genetic abnormalities; it is usually performed between weeks 15 and 18 of pregnancy. Amniotic fluid is withdrawn from the amniotic sac by inserting a hollow needle through the abdominal wall.
