Gidon Lieberman

Gidon Lieberman

Gidon works as a substantive NHS consultant at the Whittington Hospital working in gynaecology and fertility. He is accredited by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) as a specialist in reproductive medicine and surgery.

He studied medicine at St Andrew’s and Manchester Universities before completing his training in general Obstetrics & Gynaecology in North London. During that time he undertook research into ovarian cancer and was awarded his MD in 2001. He has previously worked in assisted reproduction at both Guys & St Thomas’s Hospital and Bart’s & The London NHS Trust. Prior to that, Gidon was a Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Free Hospital, where he developed an interest in the treatment of women with polycystic ovarian syndrome.

He is certified by the RCOG in gynaecological ultrasound imaging, minimally invasive surgery (hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery). His main interests are the management of unexplained sub-fertility, male factor sub fertility, ultrasound and laparoscopic surgery.  Gidon also has a special interest in the role of acupuncture in fertility.

Gidon has co-written several medical book chapters, peer-reviewed publications and presented at national and international medical conferences.

The endometrium is the medical term used to describe the lining of the womb. The biological role of the womb lining is to provide an environment where an early pregnancy can implant and subsequently grow. The lining is lost every month when a woman has a period, and the loss occurs as normal cyclical hormones fall. In most women this lining is confined only to the inside of the womb. However in woman with endometriosis the lining is found elsewhere. The most common places are on the inside walls of the pelvis and on/in the ovary. (more ...)
